Put a stop to begging

Begging at meal times is a problem most dog owners are familiar with. But what is the best way to put a stop to this?

Prevention, of course, is better than cure, so no matter how adorable your pooch's big begging eyes are, never feed your puppy from the table. There are various ways to put a stop to begging. One way is to reward your dog whenever he lies in a special place away from the table during your mealtimes. Start by rewarding frequently, and gradually reduce the rewards. Another tip is to make sure your dog is busy during your mealtimes - give him a toy or a bone to chew so that he is not focussed on your dining table. It's also important to make no exceptions to this rule - only ever reward your dog with dog treats, never with a piece of your sandwich or sausage.
