A cat who wants her breakfast doesn’t have a snooze button, unlike an alarm clock. Jorg and Isabel know that only too well. For while the coffee is brewing early in the morning, their grey tabby Wiske does her best in every possible way to tell them what she wants: breakfast, now!
Wiske was a stray cat until the day she turned up in Jorg and Isabel’s garden. “She wasn’t thin,” says Jorg, “but you could see that she was hungry. So we bought some food in the hope that she would be sitting at our back door again the next day. And there she was! We fed her every day, and slowly she started to trust us.”
In between, Wiske is one of the family. Jorg says: “Once we could catch her, we took her to the vet. She didn’t like that! When we found out that she didn’t have a microchip, we decided to have it done ourselves. Now Wiske is officially ours. Although she sometimes spends the whole day dozing indoors, she still regularly sets off into the wide world. She is and remains a free spirit.”
Whether she’s been hunting in the night or sleeping on the sofa, Wiske expects her breakfast in the morning, and she wants it fast. “She isn’t vocal, but she gazes at us with her big green eyes until she gets what she wants. I know we shouldn’t really give in so quickly, but I can’t say no,” laughs Jorg. “And while we’re enjoying our own breakfast, she’s eating her kibble. Everyone is happy!”
